More Than Requirements: How AI is making business analysts better at the human part of the job

09h30 - 10h20 Naseem Terblanche / Business Analyst at Skemia
Naseem Terblanche, speaker at the Business Analysis Summit South Africa 2026

Business analysts are more than the documents they produce. Yet many spend their days writing BRDs, FRDs and user stories, with little time left for the thinking only a human does.

This session shows how AI removes the repetitive writing and hands the time back, so analysts spend it on discovery, judgement and stakeholder trust. Attendees will see which BA tasks AI handles well, which tasks must stay human, and how to keep quality and confidentiality safe along the way. Told as a practitioner story, with honest mistakes, it makes one case: AI does not shrink the BA role, it grows it.

Key Takeaways

  • A clear split between the BA tasks AI handles well and the tasks a human must always own.
  • A safe, repeatable AI-assisted documentation workflow with governance and sign-off gates, ready to use the next day.
  • Practical guardrails to protect quality, confidentiality, traceability and stakeholder trust when using AI.
  • A sharper answer to the question every BA is asking: what makes a BA valuable as the role changes.

About the Speaker

Naseem is a senior business analyst with around thirteen years across public and private sector delivery, including business analysis on major health systems at the Western Cape Government and a team lead role in fintech at Kurtosys. He founded AIT Consulting and built Skemia, an AI documentation tool for business analysts, after losing too many weekends to repetitive documentation. He works daily in the tension this talk is about: using AI to move faster without losing judgement, context, or stakeholder trust. He speaks from the practitioner’s chair, with real lessons from building and using AI in BA work.
