Business analysis extends far beyond documenting requirements.
Business analysts are expected to bring diverse stakeholders together, navigate competing perspectives, influence decisions and guide teams towards meaningful business outcomes—often without having formal authority.
Facilitation is therefore not simply a meeting skill, it is a critical leadership capability that enables business analysts to amplify their impact across teams and organisations.
Effective facilitation creates an environment in which stakeholders can contribute openly, challenge assumptions, resolve differences and collectively reach clear decisions. A skilled facilitator does not need to have all the answers. Instead, they guide the process, ask purposeful questions, maintain focus and help the group take ownership of the outcome.
This interactive workshop explores facilitation excellence through three connected stages: Preparation, Conducting the Session and Follow-Through. At each stage, participants will explore practical facilitation techniques (virtual and face-to-face) and how AI-enabled tools can be used responsibly to improve preparation, engagement, analysis, documentation and follow-up for both virtual and face-to-face sessions. Through practical exercises, reflection and group participation, attendees will leave with a repeatable facilitation approach that strengthens their ability to influence change, build alignment and deliver impact beyond requirements.
Prepare for Session
The preparation stage will focus on defining the purpose, scope and desired outcomes of the session, creating an effective agenda, identifying the right participants, conducting stakeholder engagement analysis, and reviewing relevant documents, data, systems and background information. Participants will also explore how AI-enabled tools can support workshop research, agenda development, stakeholder preparation and session planning. The workshop will also consider the importance of validating AI-generated content and protecting confidential or sensitive information.
Conduct Session
The second stage will focus on conducting the session with confidence and purpose. Participants will explore how to open a session effectively, establish context, agree on objectives and set ground rules, encourage participation and maintain control of the discussion. The workshop will also address time management, clarifying ideas, documenting decisions, managing dominant or disengaged participants and navigating conflict or disagreement calmly and constructively.
Session Follow-through
The final stage will focus on follow-through. Participants will explore how facilitators can maintain momentum after the session by communicating decisions, distributing action items, assigning ownership, updating relevant business analysis artefacts and ensuring that agreed next steps are completed. AI-enabled tools will be explored to assist with summarising session notes, drafting follow-up communication, extracting action items, identifying decisions, updating artefacts and highlighting outstanding questions or areas requiring further investigation.
